Take a voice recording, digitize it and push it through a 1970’s knitting machine. Not the first thing I’d think to use a voice recording with but it’s just such a beautiful idea. Magdalena Kohler and Hanna Wiesener, two students from the UDK (university of the arts) in Berlin had this idea and made it a reality. They call it Gelsomina.
THe project is very similar to another knitting mashup from Germany, the news knitter, which we post a couple of months ago.

Technology today gives use these opportunities and it’s so wonderful to see designer taking advantage of them. Every kitted garment off that machine will be as unique as the voice that produced it. That is platform design at it’s finest. We love it and we want one!
