1000 Journals is an ongoing art project started back in 2000 by the artist know as ‘Someguy’. Their are 1000 Journals, each has a unique cover design, many done by famous artists or designer. These 1000 journals are sent out around the world passing from one person to another randomly and each is encouraged to express themselves in the journal.
When I first saw this in 2000 I was so inspired, I think the beauty of it was the diversity and surprise. Never knowing but always being amazed at the outcome. I think this is one of those key instances that pointed me toward platform design.
At this point all 1000 have been sent out and managed their way to 40 countries and some of the journals have returned to Someguy. You can view pages scans on their site.

Due to the huge demand for 1000 Journals project the organizers have extended it and created 1001 Journals where any number of personal journals can be sent out, tracked and scans viewed, just like in 1000 Journals.
Now 1000 Journals has published a book and there is documentary film in the works.
