John Maeda, renown media artist, professor and theorist from MIT Medialab has teamed up with Reebok custom for a shoe. It’s a pretty shoe, a nice shoe but in the end it’s a shoe designed by a famous guy. Since it’s reebok custom, shouldn’t Maeda be designing programatically generated images to be used in the different elements of the custom shoe process. That’s what came to mind when I heard Maeda and Reebok custom were doing something together.

Maeda, famous for his hand in processing the computer language for doing design and art is a natural to show Reebok how to do a more dynamic or unique customization process that has a specific style to it, not just color fields.

All this said, yes we want more Meada than some pretty designs, but the designs art pretty…

We’re looking forward to seeing if this relationship matures into something more ‘MIT like’. Or maybe even an eventual collaboration with Neil Gershenfeld. Oooooohhhhhh…

Nice! I’d love to see the exposition…

And I love to customize too.
