I can’t think of a project that has got me this fired up in many years. Take an RSS feed and port it to a knitting machine. And it’s not just the idea that’s brilliant, the results are wearable, likable and all together inspiring.

This is a project by Ebru Kurbak and Mahir M. Yavuz, both PhD students where they collaborated with a TETAS Tekstil in Istanbul using Shima Seiki’s computerized flat knitting machines. The project was called Newsknitter and can be found here.

This project is a signpost to the future, the basic tools are now available to most anyone to begin micro manufacturing and really applying the principals of mass customization into action.
