Platform Design

Conceived and curated by Australian magazine Refill, 7 is an exhibition of laser engraved skateboard decks designed by a whole pile of brilliant designers, illustrators and artists.

The medium is compelling, the method is pretty but pointless, making the works less skate than art. This said Refill has stated the boards are for collecting or skating.

The skateboard deck as an icon comes with so much ‘cool’ baggage that it’s hard to breath much inspiration into the object, but Refill 7 is such a simple idea that it does just that. Even if you’re up on your skate designers and bored with most designs these days, these decks are just simply brilliant.

The designs are beautiful, but the the fact that it’s engraved is what make these pieces over the top. And many of the artists have really pushed and twisted the engraving to the edge.

Very inspiring all in all, we can’t wait for the show to come to Europe.
