The days are few when I see work by designers that stop me in my tracks. Sauerkids is one (actually two) of those designers. Yes, they’re based in Rotterdam but I would have sworn they were from LA or SF. There work is so very postmodern candy-pop with a 4 year old take on the world and a 50 years old printmakers craft. I just can’t stop gazing at the work.
The colors are so very un-European with the purples and pastels then tie in the happy happy cut throat you get an opinion on the world that demands inspection. And inspect you should, they do everything from commercial work to plush toys and hand painted art.
As I’ve Sauerkids over the past year they continuously change and alter their sensibility that keeps them moving forward but nonetheless there is still the unmistakable characteristic of their style. They have made a huge impression on me and I believe they will do the same for the art and design community for a long time coming.
