Skwak personifies the revenge of all the kids that drew their way through school. My first experience with Skwak’s work in persons with at the ADDICT Galerie Paris where it stood out as the most agro, intense chaotics and overwhelming of all the work in the place. The work was not so much “come and see the details” but more “hear me roar!”. After the initial stun it became very clear that narration is at work, I just kept seeing more and unravelling more and more of the stories.

Skwak has built himself an empire, where all his soldiers and all his accountants report directly to his imagination and execute on his orderers to the point. Insubordination would lead to nothing less than boredom, and Skwak will have non of that!

As is usual with all the designers we profile, he’s bloody prolific like nobodies business. He makes all the things we have a habit for, skate deck, shoes, clothes architecture and art. We neeeeeddddd….

The world that is Skwak is that of Maniacs, the character that he populates his universe with. This Manias are from a far away place and have become deformed by pollution that has caused their looks and most importantly their absurd desires and behavior. Much of these Maniacs appear to provide commentary on our contemporary way of life, striving for money, goods, sex, fame, beauty and more of everything.

All I can say is, yes Skwak, I want more!
